What to Do After Every Lesson to Make It Stick! đź§
Taking a few simple steps after each lesson can make a huge difference in how well you remember what you’ve been taught.
As you settle into your classes, it’s important to not just focus on what happens during the lesson, but also on what you do afterwards. Taking a few simple steps after each lesson can make a huge difference in how well you remember what you’ve been taught. Here’s how you can make the most of your learning and ensure it sticks!

1. Review Your Notes
Why: Reviewing your notes shortly after the lesson helps reinforce the information while it’s still fresh in your mind. We have free notes for every lesson in our Masterclasses.
How: Spend 10-15 minutes going over what you’ve written. Highlight key points, add any missing details, and clarify anything that doesn’t make sense. If your notes are messy, take this time to rewrite them neatly.
2. Summarise Key Concepts
Why: Summarising helps you process the information and distil it into something that’s easier to remember.
How: Try to summarise the lesson in your own words. You can do this verbally, in writing, or even by creating a quick mind map. Keep it simple—focus on the main ideas and how they connect.
3. Teach Someone Else
Why: Teaching is one of the most effective ways to solidify your understanding of a topic.
How: Explain what you’ve learned to a friend, family member, or even to yourself out loud. If you can teach it, you’ve truly understood it!
4. Tackle Any Confusion Early
Why: It’s easier to address confusion sooner rather than later, before it becomes a bigger issue.
How: If there’s something you didn’t quite grasp during the lesson, make a note of it and ask your teacher or classmates for help as soon as possible. Don’t wait until the day before an exam to sort it out!
5. Practice, Practice, Practice
Why: The more you engage with the material, the better you’ll remember it.
How: After each lesson, try to do a few practice questions or problems related to the topic. This active engagement helps reinforce your learning and highlights areas where you might need more review.
6. Organise Your Materials
Why: Keeping your notes and materials organised helps you find what you need when it’s time to revise.
How: At the end of each day, take a few minutes to file away your notes, handouts, and any other materials in their proper place. Whether you use folders, binders, or digital storage, staying organised will save you a lot of stress down the line.
7. Reflect on What You’ve Learned
Why: Reflection helps deepen your understanding and connects new information with what you already know.
How: At the end of the day, take a moment to think about what you’ve learned in each lesson. Ask yourself questions like, “What was the most important thing I learned today?” or “How does this connect to what I already know?”
Bonus Tip: Stay Consistent
Why: Consistency is key to making these habits stick.
How: Make reviewing and reflecting on each lesson a regular part of your routine. The more consistently you do it, the more automatic it will become.
By following these steps after every lesson, you’ll be setting yourself up for success throughout the year. These small actions add up over time, helping you to build a strong foundation of knowledge that will serve you well in your exams—and beyond!
If you have any questions or need support as you implement these strategies, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to help you every step of the way.
Here’s to a fantastic and productive school year!
